Re: Food shopping, by MH

I have found that at least around here Trader Joes tends to be mobbed in the mornings and is pretty quiet at night - I think it is because most people have come to realize that they may tend to be out of a lot of things by the evening. But they sure are mobbed in the late morning - early afternoon. Whole Foods does always seem to be very crowded but they still have a lot of their produce out so that you can pick your own - they also have a bigger selection whereas Trader Joe's now puts everything in plastic which I really hate! And so much of their food is processed and even though it says organic when it has a lot of ingredients - I have heard that now they are allowed to label it organic even if only one ingredient is organic. I'm also getting frustrated with Whole Foods starting to put more and more stuff in plastic.

The best place I have found to buy produce is at the farmers markets - the prices are low and the produce is local. I got organic, local red and yellow peppers at the FM for $2 a lb and they are $5.99 or $6.99 a lb. at W.F. Now I hardly shop there much because of that.

I shop at Whole Foods because it is down the road from me, but I really pick and choose and I only buy produce or raw dehydrated bars and such. Not interested in much else of what they have either.

Anyway that's the way it is in CA.
