Its true. The 60's was way more than the extremes. What I can't figure out is how
we went from love and light to a hammer lock from the military industrial complex
with marching orders from think tanks who have no accountability for the policy's
they somehow manage to have implemented. Maybe the 60's was just a way for the power's that be to see they simply dodged a bullet and realized they had to clamp down with a greater vengence.

If the political will existed (as example), many years ago, the energy needs of the world could have been re configured away from strictly petroleum to a sustainable mix of energy technologies. But no, the greed heads and frat boy rulers wrestled
any alternatives away from public view. All in the name of $
