Lithium and iodine

Seeing lithium come up more than a few times in the Iodine forum one should be aware that;

Lithium (e.g., Lithane)—Use of these medicines with strong Iodine may increase the chance of side effects

educate yourself before doing one or the other or both at the same time...

Side effects for Iodine are listed at the same link...

I am aware of the argument that side effects are bromide (halogen balancing) detox... no need to go there, just informing.

"Lithium does have effects on the thyroid that include reduction in the release of thyroid hormone release. These effects have prompted the occasional transient use of lithium in severely hyperthyroid subjects."

Lithium side effects could be exacerbated too...

Best to be aware of these especially if you are self medicating with one or the other so that you may better determine dosage etc. for yourselves.

I suspect that the OTC doses of lithium available for the consumer market are not too much of a concern, still, it does not hurt to be aware.

There are more links and papers on the subject that I suggest one research.
