I have severe adrenal fatigue and have been treating it for 5 years. I can share some of the things I've learned that may help.
1.) Proving you have adrenal issues....You may have to eventually pay for a saliva cortisol test to prove it. Even though the forums are not active go to http://www.stopthethryoidmadness.com
website and read EVERYTHING on adrenal fatigue, plus the section on testing. There are links to 2 sites; Canary Club and Diagnostechs that test saliva cortisol WITHOUT a doctor prescription. PRINT OUT all the adrenal information and insist your parents READ IT. Or read it to them. Before the forums closed, this site had dozens, if not hundreds of REAL adrenal/thyroid patients who were improving by sharing information. Dr. Lam's is also very helpful, but the STTM site was for people with severe adrenal issues. Also go to http://www.drrind.com
and follow the links for checking your temperature. People with adrenal fatigue frequently have VERY low temps.
2.) The store bought hydrocortizone cream contains 10 mg. per 1/4 teaspoon. Yes, you can use it with limited effectiveness. I put it on my wrists when I need to stress dose.
3.) A better option is ISOCORT, which is available online from several places, although http://www.holistic-physician.com
has the best price. About $24.00 for 240 pellets. Each pellet is the rough equivalent of 2.5 mg. and YES, it does work. I have used it for about 7 months and worked up to about 10 pellets a day and I use an additional 7 mg. or so of Cortef. Using all Cortef makes my heart pound and Isocort seems gentler. I have paid for saliva testing on my own using Cortef and another using Isocort and another using adrenal glandulars. There was NO appreciable increase using the glandulars, but with both Isocort and Cortef my cortisol would 'bump up' about 2 points for each 2.5 mg. using morning levels of about 7-10. Example; morning cortisol @ 3.5...I took 2 Isocorts, retested 1 hour later and level was 7.2
4.) In addition you do NOT need a prescription for Cortef if you buy it from http://www.mastersmarketing.com
in England. Their site also has a toll free phone # you can call. If you have aldosterone issues (which many times go hand in hand with severe adrenal fatigue) they have Florinef. But do not use it if you have not had your morning aldosterone levels checked. Go into the site via the patient site on the RIGHT, NOT the veterinary site on the left. There will be a box somewhere in the ordering process that asks you if you have a doctor's prescription. Just check "YES" and insert any doctor's name you wish. This is just for THEIR liability, not for checking. They do not check with your doctor. I get my prescriptions fast, in 10 days, reasonalble prices and shippping. They also have hydrocortizone creams at MUCH higher concentrations than store bought.
Above all....DON'T despair!!! I've been where you are!!!! There is hope. There is help!!!! The Bible says in the book of James, "Does anyone lack wisdom, let them ask of God, who gives freely without finding fault". Ask Him! And ask him to open your parents eyes to your illness and allow them to understand. And as hard as it is, KEEP CALM. Any stress causes your adrenals to deplete. I just finished saying a prayer for YOU!!!!
