Re: Jimmys corn, by MH
Interesting info
My Sweetie and I live in an apt. but we actually do have a garden out back and we have been growing a few things. The best thing tho, is that a short distance from where we live in Northern Cal. there is a little hiking loop on some public land. The land used to be an orchard so there are tons of fruit trees growing all along there. I am unable to hike right now, but he has been out there gathering apples, pears, plums etc. What a treat and the most amazing thing is out of the few people who walk the trail it doesn't seem like many are bothering to pick any of the fruit but it's hard to tell - he hasn't SEEN anyone picking it. We have so much wonderful open space around here and I am planning soon to take a class in herbs given by a local herbalist whom I respect a lot and in the process I will get to go out on the land and the trails and learn first hand about some of the herbs available in the local area.
What are your thoughts on dehydrating foods that we cannot eat? we are doing it so as to have it available in the winter and also for backpacking trips and for daylong hikes as well. Can you tell me your thoughts on dehydrating? The food is so delicious especially our home grown tomatoes...
The dehydrator does it's job very very slowly and and the temp is well below the usual temp that is supposed to start killing off the nutrients.
Thanks for any input mh... I continue daily to be inspired and educated by this forum.
