Re: assaulted - defer grad school?
I would first speak to the University Administration and explain my situation - they should allow deferrment or an "out" of the enrollment, entirely. Then, I would tell my parents everything - with only three weeks out of my assautl, I would still be in physical and emotional shock from my ordeal and, as my Survival and healing progressed, I would want supportive family members around me. I would choose to put Law School on a back burner for a while - the stresses and demands of Law School might just send me over the edge if I haven't worked through my assault.
Finally, I would be involved in counseling/therapy with a rape-crisis specialist, ASAP. Although years might pass after my assault, there would come a day when I might become paralyzed (literally) upon seeing a doorway, color, or vehicle that triggers the horrors of my abduction. Post traumatic stress syndrome is quite real and it is utterly devastating - pretending that all is well only exacerbates the effects when the body and mind finally say, "Okay, ENOUGH! It's time to deal with this!"
Best wishes to you - your Survival and healing are in my prayers.
