Re: PTree...
No problem with the questions...I just hope I can help out.
If you take a look at this link:
you will see the anatomy of the lower digestive tract. It sounds like the areas that you have bulges are the flexures or bends where your colon makes pretty major turns. One is near the liver (right side) and the other is near the spleen (left side, a little higher). The small intestines are thinner, though longer, and lie within the confines of the colon. I doubt the blockage is in the small intestines because the material is in a liquid state there (so you don't need to worry that the
colonic doesn't reach the small intestines). It only becomes solid as it passes through the colon and water is absorbed from it.
35 years is a very long time to be on a medication...and you are right about your liver having to deal with it. I assume that your doctor regularly checks your thyroid levels. Constipation is one symptom of hypothyroid. But I am surprised you are hypo. If anything, from your posts...I would have thought you were more hyper like you said.
Since your doctor mentioned spastic colon, it is important that you stay away from stimulant laxatives like senna, cascara sagrada and cape aloes. These may cause further spasticity...which may be why so many of the cleanses didn't work for you. Since you can't take
Epsom Salts is it OK to take magnesium supplements? Magnesium citrate or oxide can act as osmotic laxatives and don't produce the same problem as the stimulant laxatives. Magnesium and also vitamin C...when taken in large doses...will loosen the stools or cause diarrhea because the body will eliminate whatever it doesn't need (provided you are well hydrated). But I don't know how these would interact with your medications.
As for the "Xanax Test"...the Xanax would relax your whole body, including your colon. I don't know if I would go so far as to say that this "proves" it's spastic colon...although spastic colon is very common. Since you did have the good response, though, this would indicate that you need to learn ways to deeply relax. Relaxation exercises, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, tai chi, qigong, etc....any would be helpful.
Unless these bulges are painful, I would massage them a lot before your
colonic and see if that might help break up the material. I would also work on relaxing. There is a world of difference between sitting down to catch your breath relaxing or watching TV relaxing...and a very deep state of relaxation that reaches deep into the body.
