Vegan to RAW vegan ?!?!?!?!?
Hi,
I'm really excited to be here. I'm 26, went veggie 10 years ago, vegan 4 years ago and have just recently been reading all about RAW veganism. I didn't get it at first, but reading this one article from
Angela Stokes recently helped me understand. I wanted to share a bit of it here and commit now to trying this out...:
"The reason many vegetarians and vegans don’t look or feel so healthy is that they replace meat or animal products with masses of processed foods instead, like pastas, bread, vegan ice cream and so on. Just because something says ‘suitable for vegans’ on the label, it doesn’t automatically mean it’s great for you. Margarine for example is ‘suitable for vegans’, yet these trans-fat-catastrophes NEVER break down…they are one molecule away in structure from plastic…imagine what that does to your insides… :O
I’d recommend avoiding all gluten-containing foods too – especially wheat, rye, barley and oats (plus also spelt, cous-cous and kamut, to lesser degrees). The protein gluten is one of the most common food allergens known. Eating gluten is like eating GLUE – it clogs up your insides, slows digestion and is an intestinal irritant. This is especially so for the highly refined, de-mineralised kinds of wheat flour used in white breads, pastas, cakes etc. Think about it – this stuff can be used mixed with water as PASTE for papier mache or fly-postering…do you really want to be eating that…? I’d recommend opting instead for gluten-free alternatives such as amaranth, buckwheat, corn/maize, rice, quinoa and millet, if you want to eat grains at all. I’d also recommend steamed whole vegetables as a great transition food towards a greater percentage of raw foods."
EATING GLUE???????!!!!!!!! covered with trans fats that are basiclaly PLASTIC...????????!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, ok, that was enough for me. I'm sold. LOL. That first bit is me all over - went veggie then vegan, cut out all the animal products and ate tons of bread instead. Now I'm feeling fat and stodgy, like a big greasy (vegan) cream cake and want to get some of that raw energy instead I keep reading about......
I'll keep y'all posted.
Maria. xoxo
