Ok, so I took a 2-day break from my PC (something I often do) and shortly after coming to CZ I discover the Iodine forum suffered a split. I read what seemed like a "gazillion" posts to try to find out what the heck had happened and what I came out with (more or less) is that there seems to be a problem with tolerance of opinions here... very disheartening indeed for someone relatively new to this site (began lurking in April...).
I have to agree with those that said they would not refer anyone to this site anymore; in fact, even when I first came here I found the atmosphere less than friendly and hesitated about staying here. Knowing that all forums "house" all types of people, some not normal by any definition, I decided to linger so I could learn more feeling confident that I could filter whose advice/opinions I could take seriously or not. However, once again I've questioned how long I'll stick around here because it's my belief one should avoid negative "vibes" as much as possible and there seems to be no lack of those around here! Being a curious person I know that - at least for a while - I will be going back and forth between I-forums just in order to satisfy my curiosity but at the moment I don't know whether I'll stay or go or if I'll just "zoom" by occasionally like a comet to see "what's new". It's too bad because for a bit I'd thought this was a really cool site for those of us who believe in being in charge of our health.
I decided to post in this forum because I consider myself to be rather a conservative iodine user. My main motives for taking it are my tendency to be hypothyroid and a family history of breast and other cancers that seemed affected by iodine deficiency. But as much as I admire and respect the "Iodine Doctors" for their pioneering spirit and as much hope as I see in "orthoiodosupplementation", I feel all this is too new for me to go to high dosages without adequate supervision or at least increasing my intake too soon. I feel that since I can't look inside my body and see what's happening at a cellular level (and neither can anybody else for that matter....) I must exercise caution. Without regular testing (which I don't even believe seems very reliable...) all we can do is go by how we feel but that seems to be very tricky, especially when too many bad symptoms show up, at this point it's hard for me to believe that they're all due to "bromide detoxing" (or other) and not the iodine itself.
Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks for any "enlightening" answers re: "the split", feel free to e-mail me if you prefer not to post your opinion here. Meanwhile, good health to all!
