Re: Candida in urine?
Hi there ... I was suffering from frequent urination and burning in my bladder along with a fungal infection in my mouth. After many tests (cystoscope, urodynamics, Ultrasounds, CT-scan) for my bladder a culture finally revealed a Candida Glabrata infection in my bladder.
The infection did cause white sediment in my urine ... I'm not sure if it is pus or the candida reminants. Either way, my Internist had me on two rounds of Diflucan. Each time I take it, my symptoms get better my urine clears. When symptoms get worse again (my Internist didn't have me on the Diflucan long enough) it is when the Diflucan wears off and the fungus overgrows again.
I finally saw an infectious disease specialist today and he took a full round of blood work and another urine culture and put me back on Diflucan for 14 days ... at which time he will reassess the situation. He thinks I will need to be on it or some other anti-fungal for a month or two to clear this up.
I highly recommend getting set-up with an ID specialist and having a culture done ... my internist thought I was nuts when I asked about a fungal infection. She thought I had a bacterial UTI and couldn't understand why the THREE rounds of
Antibiotics weren't working. I'm four months into this problem and only now getting to the bottom of it. I've been on about 12 courses of
Antibiotics in the past year, so it seemed like a no-brainer to me that it was Candida.
Good luck to you!!
