Re: Can anyone make sence of this?
To distill it down, we're looking at a pathway which is responsible for skin maturation (or development of the barrier aspect of the mature skin layer, to be a little more exact). They've offered a number of things which might be useful in stimulating this pathway, but nothing concrete yet.
Patent issued in 2001. If anything promising was developed, it's probably in some level of clinical trial. This patent seems primarily aimed at the pathway (previously undescribed, one assumes), with an extensive list of possible therapeutics. A CYA for future drug development?
Worth noting that this in no way addresses an underlying disease state. It's directed at the development of mature skin with normal barrier properties. That's why the potential applications cover so many cases.
It's nice to know someone's out there working on it anyway. Honestly, I'm still enjoying my Lysine/B-vit induced normalcy (knock on wood).
