Re: Iodine Hair Dye Experiment

Well, I'm not glaxony, but I do recall reading a couple of posts of people who said it bleached their hair (and/or 'burnt' it).

I have had amazing 'return of coppery red flash' to my 47 year old long auburn hair (that I honestly hadn't even noticed was gone until it started coming back)...and both my husband and I have seen a LOT less grey and a lot more 'natural color' to our hair (and his beard). But that's all from dosing internally.

I soaked my head in a bathtub full of water that I'd added about 1/3 of a cup of Lugol's to, and I didn't see any difference in hair color at all...although my hair did seem a lot softer and maybe a bit more lusterous the next day or two. My scalp felt terrific.

At that point I had 'threatened' to braid a little section of my hair and dip it in the ole Lugol's bottle (and let it dry naturally and stay on until the next hair washing -which is every other day), but I never got around to doing it.

One thing I'm pretty sure I know (from my skin experiences AND from reading it in an old medical book on Google somewhere), is that if you use the same ratio of iodine/iodide but use a lot less water, the solution is fairly caustic. I think I "know" that from putting/saturating Lugol's on a cotton ball and taping it to an area under my breast; the next morning the cotton ball was almost dry and I thought the redness was a sign of healing of some type...so I did it again the next day. Yowzah, it seemed to 'burn off' the top few layers of skin. :(

It healed really well with a lil' slippery elm packed on the area, but it really looked like a caustic burn before it healed. By the way, I was treating an old, very deep scar...and now the area is much less 'dense' in scar tissue. I may apply Lugol's to it again, but NEVER with a saturated bandaid or cotton ball that stays on for any length of time - I'll just dab a bit on the area with a q-tip and let it dry while 'holding up my boob'. It's been my experience that leaving it on the skin for any length of time 'wet', seems to result more in irritation/redness than just simple painting.

I'll be interested to read what glaxony reports, too. I may still 'braid a section' and give it a dip sometime; if I do, I'll be sure and post the results.

Blessings,

Unyquity
