quote from PhD on her opinion of iodine therapy, and question.
"Don't use iodine. It will severely inhibit your thyroid. It is a cult (hoax) promoted by Dr. [Abraham].
Iodine deficiency is almost non-existent in this country. Especially in those who eat fish or processed foods. 150 ug (micrograms) daily is a safe dose. I have many clients who have been taking
Iodine and all had to stop because they developed serious goiters and became very ill!"
This from a friend's friend who is a PhD. I am confused by the comment that
Iodine could cause goiter. I was FINALLY (I mean, it has been around for 4 months...) able to devote an uninterrupted 2 hours to the Flechas interview yesterday (thanks to Uny!) and I do wonder whether, say, if I had
Breast Cancer or FBD I would take high doses of iodine because that would be the solution, whereas without acute illness, I might want to revert to painting + a couple of drops a day/not every day. (I have been taking 4-8 drops per day on an average of 3-4 days per week... .)
I must say that after I heard the Flechas interview I wanted to send out a mass e-mail to everyone I know who is:
a doctor
a user of municipal water
eats commercially produced bread
uses thyroid medication
has diabetes or a pre-diabetic condition
has problems with cysts
has troubles with fertility
is pregnant or nursing, or who has children
In other words, pretty much everyone I know, to alert them of their iodine deficiency! Then we had dinner last night with some friends and I was discussing the interview and decided I would skip the e-mail as they were looking at me as if I was suggesting they mainline poison.
The funny thing is when people say, "You look so great!" I will always mention iodine therapy. I smoked for 25 years and have no wrinkles, etc. and have gotten pretty thin (or, not-fat in places where most childbearing women stay fat...), so you can imagine that other of my friends want to know what's what with that! But the minute I mention iodine (and I don't do it like a zealot, but as I would if I believed the latest Clinique product was responsible) they totally shut down.
It's so frustrating because pretty much everyone I know, including many closest friends, falls into one of the above categories. I was in tears yesterday driving down to Charlottesville listening to the bromine discussion by Flechas. One of my dearest friends from Austin is a musician who has had many schizo-affective symptoms over the years. He will skyrocket to fame and then have to abandon his career because of mental illness. And takes many drugs to control it, which of course have terrible side effects -- huge weight gain, for instance. his favorite drink is mountain dew and i could not help but wonder if maybe bromine poisoning has contributed to the symptoms that people attribute to schizophrenia, and what his life might look life with no mountain dew, some iodine, and no more tremor/weight-gain-inducing psych meds -- maybe no trips to the Austin State Hospital, electroshock, jail, etc., and maybe just more attention to his music and art.
i will leave you with one of his songs:
