When my son was 18, he was involved in a horrible car wreck when a drunk driver veered into him and sent him across the median into oncoming traffic. A year and a series of painful operations and rehab, titanium plates and posts, etc., and my son was able to walk again unassisted. Ultimately, he was put back together about 95% (yep, mainstream medicine is without peer when it comes to repairing broken parts and physical trauma), but was left with an opiate addiction that he has struggled with ever since. The current rehab program he is in is his 8th and he has his longest period of being drug free so far - over 6 months.
