Could be lidocaine, although that doesn't last long... might be more of a sedative for the "debridement". Wound debridement is generally a very painful experience.

The later paragraphs (addressing the 32 of 55 patients who perhaps didn't get good results in the 1st part of the study) detail the use of antidepressants to combat the habitual biting/picking. I was able to suss out the terms tricyclic AD and what should translate to SSRI (selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitor). It becomes less groundbreaking viewed in this light. Most of the supporting citations are pretty old...

Best thing to do with this is search the Author/Title and see who's cited it. If the research is really promising, more studies are usually done and you'll find this one cited in the newer studies. If no one is citing your work - your results weren't that impressive or your study was poorly designed.
