Using Agave Nectar Instead of Grade B Maple Syrup


I have not yet done a MC, but am interested in doing a 2-3 week Master-Cleanse in June. I plan to do one to two days a week for the next 3 weeks to prepare. I have a copy of the book, but found this article that suggests using Agave in place of the grade B maple syrup. The article contains some good information on the process of this program and I thought it may be of interest to some here on the new Master-Cleanse Modified Support Forum.

Has anyone used agave when doing a MC? If so, I would like to hear your experience.

First, I would like to share some information I found concerning Agave and Grade B Maple Syrup:

The agave cactus grows in Central America. It produces a sweetener that is about 68% frutose, 22% glucose, 4% fructooligosaccharides. Because of its heavy fructose concentration, agave is 32% sweeter than table Sugar but has a low glycemic index (about 34). This means that when consumed, agave has a minimal impact on blood Sugar levels following consumption. It is better suited for people with candida infections.

Grade B Maple Syrup
The U.S. and Canada have slightly different grading systems for maple syrup. What is classified as Grade B maple syrup in the U.S. is the same as Grade C maple syrup in Canada. This grade is the best sweetener and the most balanced sugar. It is processed from the last tapping of the maple sap, so it is richer in invert sugars and minerals.

Grade B maple syrup is also a lower glycemic index food, resulting in a slow, gradual rise in blood Sugar levels. The best maple syrup is currently produced in Vermont because it is strictly regulated for purity and authenticity by government law. Some unscrupulous marketers in other areas have been known to add refined sugars to colored diluted genuine maple syrup to produce a cheaper product. Also, a number of years ago, there was a problem with some Canadian and U.S. producers inserting formaldehyde pellets in their sugar maple trees to keep tap holes open longer, increasing yeilds. The Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanse
[MODIFIED: Agave nectar/syrup in place of Grade B Maple Syrup]

The Master Cleanse is not a fast, but a cleansing program. A True fast consists only of water, while the original Master Cleanse incorporates a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper that is consumed throughout the day and is a source of calories, vitamins, and minerals.

NOTE: Clinical experience has shown that people do better when the Grade B Maple Syrup is replaced with Agave syrup. Stanley Burroughs never had the opportunity to test this during his lifetime, so his recipe remains with the maple syrup.

The Master Cleanse is ideal for anyone who is not diabetic and can safely cleanse for at least three to seven days. The ideal duration of a cleanse is one to three weeks.

Program:

Take juice of 1/2 fresh lemon (preferably organic).
Mix juice into 8 oz. of distilled water
Add 1-2 tablespoons of agave nectar (or Grade B maple syrup)
Add up to 1/10th teaspoon cayenne pepper (red)

Start with a pinch or two of cayenne and gradually increase to 1/10th teaspoon. Do NOT put cayenne pepper (capsicum) in capsules and take separate from the lemonade drink. It changes the action of the formula, and if sent directly to the stomach can cause inflammation and excessive mucous secreation. This may lead to sinusitis or to bowel mucous, and can even contribute to inflammatory bowel syndrome.

Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces every day. (example: If you weigh 100 pounds, you should drink 50 ounces)

Agave syrup and Grade B maple syrup are two of the most balanced of all sugars, containing a balance of positive and negative ions. Neither enters the bloodstream as rapidly as honey or sugar which is better for people who react adversely to sugars, (becoming restless, sleepless, and energetic after comsuming sugar), or may be borderline or pre-diabetic. Diabetics should definitely substitute agave for the maple syrup, using up to 1/4 tablespoon.

Contrary to popular belief, lemon is not acidic in the body. It turns alkaline in the mouth. If an acid-like reaction is observed when using lemon with water, it is because of the minerals in the water. Distilled water will not react in this manner.

Cayenne Pepper is a blood vessel dilator, a thermal warmer, and provides vitamin A. People who have type O blood tend to have poor circulation. As a result, their body temperature may drop during a cleanse. Because cayenne is an herb known for its ability to warm and restore circulation, it may be taken internally and used topically (especially on the feet, but in small amounts).

Cayenne Pepper is also thermogenic. When used in a dietary program, it can facilitate an increase in the body's ability to burn fat.

For the deepest cleanse, it is recommended that you cleanse for at least two weeks. Exercise enhances the cleansing action of the program.

During the middle and later phases of the cleanse, the body chemistry changes, and energy levels may begin to increase. One may experience minor discomforts, such as headaches, upset stomach, or low energy, as toxins and parasites are released from the body. These symptoms will be short-lived.

It is important that you have a positive attitude during cleansing or fasting. If you are unaccustomed to the process, you can prepare yourself by fasting one day a week. The biggest obstacle to successful cleansing is fear of failure and not knowing what to expect.

To fast for 24 hours, it is easiest if you begin at noon and finish at noon on the following day or from one dinner to the next.

Again, drink plenty of water.

As you begin a fast, you may experience some unpleasant side effects of cleansing, such as headache, nausea, bloating, or irritability. These symptoms are part of the cleansing response and are often a result of toxins and waste matter being purged from the body, which usually takes place within 12 to 36 hours.

If you experience these symptoms, you can cut back on your fluid intake, and turn to vegetable juices; carrot juice, and 50/50 mixes carrot and celery, spinach and broccoli is really good. Carrot with a little apple juice or carrot, apple, and a little lemon juice is good to facilitate the continuation of the cleansing. Six ounces of carrot juice, one ounce of apple, and 1/2 ounce of lemon juice will help keep the pH steady, slow the diarrhea, and keep the cleansing action going.

If you are feeling nauseated and bloated, it is an indication of two possibilities: 1. poisons are being released at a very rapid rate and may be backing up into the liver. Keeping the lever cleansed and flushed is extremely important. So it would be good to take ledum essential oil in a capsule at night or early morning. Ledum has a very strong effect on the liver and kidneys as a diuretic and a bile duct dilator. (be sure the ledum essential oil is a therapeutic-grade, approved for internal use)

The second reason for feeling ill is that the colon may not be eliminating as well because of spastic colon, loss of peristalsis (the wavelike motion of the intestines that moves waste matter out of the body), and/or from prolapsing with restrictions from kinks, loops, or twists in the colon. Hydro Colon therapy is a powerful treatment for cleansing the body and assisiting in restoring peristalsis.
