Re: ***O/T*** A question I was asked today....

I agree and disagree with you.

I DO believe Christ showed us the way; but personally, I believe that the main importance of what Christ did was in the Garden of Gethsemane! When He prayed in Gethsemane, everyone else kept falling asleep. Just from reading from Matthew, you can tell Jesus was a bit upset that the others couldn't pray WITH Him. They kept falling asleep!

He KNEW what He must do, but He was afraid. Who wouldn't be? He KNEW that He didn't HAVE to do what He knew "came next", but He had to come to the acceptance of God's Will ON HIS OWN, without ANYONE ELSE'S HELP! He finally prayed, ""My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

He went back THREE times to pray, and ALL THREE times, the others were asleep, or falling asleep. In other words, what I personally believed what is being shown us, that ultimately, each of us, MUST decide, ON OUR OWN, to come to the knowledge that even though we are afraid, even though we may not understand why, even though we may come to know we will go through tremendous fear, pain, or suffering - for the ultimate GOOD of God's Will, sometimes we must simply concede to HIS WILL - by ourselves - with nobody else there to help or support us!

"Yet not as I will, but as you will."

Others died on a cross.

Others were raised from the dead....

But how many of us concede to GOD'S ultimate and perfect WILL knowing of the pain and suffering to come...of the humiliation and loneliness we are about to feel...and of the knowledge that our best friends will deny ever knowing us?

THAT is what Christ showed us, in my opinion!

You would have to decide, if God Himself told you, "Trapper, for the ultimate good that I may or may not tell you at this time, I want you to STOP taking iodine."

Would you do it?

So, I think in that regard, you are right; salvation is an individual thing. But Christ DID set the ultimate example. Boy Howdy, did He ever!
