I understand why you would feel that way, as it makes logical sense on several levels.

However, Iodine IS an essential element (just like water and salt). First we replenish when we are 'low', but then we need to keep giving our body what it needs to work properly (it's not our body's fault that the earth is deficient in iodine, and we should be getting it just by having a normal diet...grrr). Iodine isn't like insulin or synthetic hormones, it gives our bodies the ABILITY to produce, maintain and balance the hormones it needs.

As for me, I'm going to make sure my body is "filled up", and then I'm going to treat it like any other element my body needs to live. I wouldn't deprive myself of water, food or salt just because I worried about my body becoming 'dependent' upon them, so I'm not going to do that with iodine.
