Meth, Pseudoephedrine, Phenylephrine, & Iodine

It's funny. They restricted sale of OTC pseudoephedrine in an attempt to limit meth production. Do you know what this actually resulted in? Higher quality meth on the streets. Why? Because it knocked the kitchen-chemists out of the picture, leaving the lab-chemists who produce larger batches using purer sources. Did they really think most meth was made by people who go to Wallgreens and buy 10 packs of Sudafed?

What is also funny is that the new Sudafed PE, phenylephrine, is pretty useless as a decongestant. I don't mind signing the book to get a product that actually works though. To make matters even more hilarious, I've heard some people will take large doses of phenylephrine by itself as a legal/cheap alternative to Ecstasy.

It's ridiculous that anyone thinks they can keep drug users from using drugs. We aren't keeping people from getting high; we are just shifting the profits to corporations. I hate seeing Iodine targeted in what is surely a losing battle. Tweet
