very definitely yes. your body can make tsh and the thyroid respond with t-3 and t-4 accordingly. but if the halides involved are not iodine, you still get the substances that show up on the tests, but they fail to enable proper metabolism at a cellular level. this is what happens in wilsons thyroid syndrome, also known as cold body syndrome, which is exactly what i had(among other things).
