Gum disease and OP...does it work?

First off, I've just joined this board and I've very intrigued about this new found therapy. I've just started OP like 2 days ago and I must admit I'm still somewhat unsure about all this...can it work for me?? My problem is gum disease/receding gum. If anyone knows...it's very depressing. I knew I've been having problems with periodontal for some time now(like 10+ yrs), but it's only now I want to seriously do something about it. I went to a new dentist and they're telling me I have pockets as deep as 3-7mm with the majority being around 4-5mm. They told me I'll need to come in for 3 visits for a "deep cleaning" the first time and return 3 months later for more checkups. Sounds a bit much, but I guess that's the normal procedure. My biggest fear is will more gum recede or lost after the scaling and root planning. What do you ppl think? I guess no matter what, I still have to go through it. How much pain is there?

My biggest hope is OP will allow me to get back on the right track after the procedure. If my pockets can shrink and allow my gum to grow back....that's the ultimate goal, but I dunno. I need any advice I can get. I just bought this OraMd you guys are talking about so I'll see how that goes.
