New Mirena User - with questions!

Hi. I had the Mirena put in 3 weeks ago. It seemed like a great type of contraceptive from what I was told and heard. Unlike many others here, I was looking forward to not having periods but since having it inserted I have been bleeding constantly and in a lot of pain.

The first two days I was in bed crying and screaming because it was so painful - is that normal?

Since then I have had severe cramps and regular bleeding all day/night - is that normal?

Does the bleeding stop? I could cope with bleeding once a month but the constant bleeding is really not what I want. Does the cramping stop? How long does it usually take to settle?

Before, I only had light periods of 1-2 days with no cramping. I was a little bit emotional the week before but nothing major. I only had it put in because most of my friends / postnatal group seem to have the Mirena and it seemed like an easy contraceptive method.

Should I wait a bit longer to see if it settles or just have it taken out now? If I have it taken out, do you still bleed afterwards and how long does it take to stop and get back to a regular cycle?

Thanks in advance for any advice .... I'm very uncertain whether this is really the right thing for me but thought I was making a fuss about the bleeding. (Dr said that I would have 'mild' cramps for 30 mins after having it put in and no other side effects).
