Cayenne, etc. (with Wombat in mind), sugars, cravings and OP
Hi,
I read a post from Wombat a little while ago about cayenne. Here are a couple of links to cayenne-related things, etc.

That is an interesting article about peppers from a "real food" writer I admire.

That is from Zoe's
Master-Cleanse blog. Great information and great pix!
Some things I have been thinking about lately are that I do not get food or other cravings when/after I eat peppers. Or as much now that I am an OPer. Currently my cravings tend to be for sugars (carbs) (I never just "crave" a carrot) or cigarettes. But it was also true to a degree when I craved other stuff like alcohol. I wonder if the endorphin effect of the cayenne sates the craving for whatever. The next time I have a craving for choco or ice cream in a big way, I am going to try cayenne.
I also find these cravings diminishing a lot with OP. Maybe this is just related to the overall feeling of well-being that Oil Pulling has brought into my life, but on a more general level, I know it's true. When I have stopped pulling for a few days or so, I get cravings again.
It is my belief that the
Sugar craving eclipses them all. I think we can constantly feed the addiction (i.e. you jsut cannot stop eating) and so it is hard to kick it. And whereas crack cocaine is a social no-no, our whole society and government tells us to consume! And lots of it! But I find
Sugar the most powerful thing I have struggled with and that list includes cigarette addiction, opiate use, alcoholism and some crack cocaine thrown in for good measure. My body is hard-wired for cravings! But I have such sympathy for those people in Trapper's movie who just could not make it without sugar. Donna Gates, author of "Body Ecology Diet," calls it "feeding the yeast." (Her theory is that the yeasties are hungry and so you get a
Sugar craving.)
A couple of years ago a sober friend quit what she called "intentional" sugar -- i.e. soda, sugar in coffee, etc. Anyway, she was walking by a bar one day and the thought popped into her head that it might be a good idea to step inside and have herself a cold one! Fortunately she remembered that it was probably just her body's sugar addiction talking. But, to me that speaks of something with TREMENDOUS power.
I think I am going to try and pull twice a day and keep a sugar-craving log and some cayenne lemonade in the fridge to try before I snack.
Happy pulling!
Laura
