Re: Hey Jayson!
I think it is so great that you are feeling so good and have a grasp....I tell ya...I hear ya on the chocolate/ice cream thing....I cna eat that if I count carbs and take insulin...and I stay in the normal range as long as I ONLY eat what I took insulin for!! LOL
I have been eating all my food groups in the right portions and using the whole grains....organic when I can afford it...etc....for going on 2 weeks (I've done this most my life, but I fall off ALL them time and have to start over!!) But anyhow I'm feeling good right now....my weight doesn't fluctuate much, never has, I am about 106 -108 always. I've been blessed with those genes as my family members w/o diabetes are small that way....THANK GOODNESS for me right!
But anyhow my average amount of insulin per meal is about 3 units...so if I feel hungary and eat the in between snacks I average about 11 units per day (I'm Type I, always insulin dependent....have been for 25 yrs) That is one unit PER carb...165 grams per day. I refuse to get the pump, so I also take a long acting insulin (baseline insulin) once a day. Since I've been back monotoring my carbs I have dropped off that one from 36u to 30u....not bad considering the diabetics on this insulin (Lantus) average about 80units / day. Backing off of it is slow going because I am hyper sensitive to it (gotta take it slow or I get the highs and lows from....well you know where lol)....it also takes a day or 2 to SEE the results of a change. Maybe at some point I will be off that one, but I'm not stressing...I FEEL GOOD that's all I care about! I've had to take insulin for SO long it really is a normal part of my day, so that was not really ever my goal...to get OFF insulin completely. Just want to FEEL BETTER! I'm here sorta looking for new ways and maybe some herbal things that HELP lower the BS, AND MOST OF ALL THE STRESS THAT COMES WITH HAVING THE DISEASE!!! ;)
I'm gonna try the apple cider. Does that make you drop quickly??? I mean do you feel the sudden drop ...like a low BS reaction? When mine drops too quickly I FEEL as though I'm having a hypoglycemic attack...even if it is NOT that low...
Well I will anxiously await your reply before I talk your ear off!! I have some other questions for ya....but I do not want to over load! LOL
Thank You!!
