Re: Need info, pleeeeeeeease!!!

AHH...I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes 25 years ago...and unfortunately I am also a smoker...honestly it seems common among diabetics....odd huh? I think it has to do with the fact that anxiety and Depression ARE side effects of the disease...yes they are. It is often unrecognized by docs though....I'll admit they are getting better about it in the last couple years though. Anyway 214 daily is a bit too high, and that IS causing his Depression and anxiety. It's like this...an injured animal acts iriationally...when the blood sugars are higher than normal your body acts INJURED and defensive...hence anxiety...you can't seem to stop it and you feel sick... Depression sets in. BEEN THERE am there now.....

My advice, if you are interested, would be to maybe just try to improve his diet....you know watch the carbohydrate intake...ALL carbs I mean...(milk, fruit, starches, starchy vegetables) This advice is solely to decrease the blood sugars. (start small...diabetics need that!) He still must eat them, but you must have access to the exchange diet...right? If not let me know. Use this as a reference to HOW much he should eat. Because if he can get the blood glucose down even to 150, for now, he will feel better and the emotional impact will subside. At that point he may have a better chance at quitting smoking...although I tend to believe that smoking, as bad as it is to your health, is NOT as bad as the day in day out stress of the anxiety and depression. I am doing this now...as we speak, it's been about one week and I already feel it....

Good Luck to you,
NYSSA
