Dark chocolate is also toxic towards dogs, but humans can eat it safely.

Xylotol is plant derived, and actually very safe to use for humans. I think it comes from birch--not sure. It does actually reverse tooth decay when used daily also and is much more safer - with other added health benefits besides tooth health-- than using the common artifical sweetners sold in every grocery store under the Sun and in every restaurant.
