Protein & Oil

well, well, well...NC man...I haven't got a clue as to whey protein...

...but, as usual...I do have a reference that may be helpful to you, which backs up and elaborates on my original post. I DO so like it when my various gurus agree...this guru being the one, the only (I should really work for this guy) UDO!(Erasmus, that is...)

From "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill"

"The major STRUCTURAL components of our body are good oils that supply balanced amounts of EFA's, and complete proteins that supply balanced amounts of all essential amino acids. They must be provided by a wholesome diet. To remain healthy, we need enough protein and fat to build, repair, and replace cell structures. An adequate amount is 10-12% of calories as whole food proteins. Athletes in both muscle building and aerobic training need more. Body builders need even more to build huge(protein) muscles...

Protein and oil, found together in membranes, play the key roles in forming the structures of our cells and tissues. These structures provide the framework and scaffolding-the stage-upon which the energy made available for life plays out the drama of our life. Like points on spark plugs, protein and oil form associations between which the spark of life-life's energy-sizzles and dances.

Although both oils and proteins can be used for fuel, they do not burn 'clean', producing ketones & ammonia, respectively, which can have toxic effects on the liver, kidneys & brain. Complex carbohydrates provide clean burning fuel. In most diets, they should make up 68-75% of calories, and come from fresh, fiber-rich leaf and root vegetables, and from whole grains..."

Sooo....sounds like you DO need extra, NC man. I know that when I am getting a lot of exercise, I just eat a LOT more...the only thing that I would question as to the whey protein is that I do believe that it is in "isolate" form? I, personally, am a strong advocate of WHOLE foods....Whole foods have all elements necessary for proper nutrient assimilation ...Fractionated foods do not. Is fractionated a word? hehehe...

Anyway, hope that you can glean something helpful from this... :)
