Re: how much is too much protein?

This might end up being more of a debate... I used to think protein was the most important of fats, carbohydrates and protein... now I think it is the LEAST important with fats being first and foremost. Fats are required for regulatory hormonal production and nerve function, carbohydrates for energy, proteins for enzyme production. Minerals are needed to aid in the conduction of ALL the activity through electrical\chemical reactions, a negative with a positive and\or an acid with a base.

Fats and carbohydrates are various strings of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. Proteins add the element, nitrogen, which is ubiquitous. Many huge, very strong animals do not eat diets based upon proteins. Large Whales eat primarily krill... what is the recent news on krill oil? I am beginning to think we can make proteins as we make our own vitamins within our bodies. Proteins make up enzymes, and co-enzymes which are manufactured in our bodies as well...

Where the heck do animals (the ones we eat) get the essential proteins from eating their natural foods like grasses etc????? They must manufacture them if the plants they eat do not contain them.

I think vegan, skinny and sickly may not be a "lack" of protein as we have been led to believe, but really a lack of adequate plant fats and oils.

I know I did not really answer your question, but I would think our protein need is minimal.
