Having tooth extracted tomorrow! What do I need to know?

I'm having my back molar pulled due to a crown prep that left the tooth very unhappy. Anyway, what do I need to know before I go in to have the tooth pulled? I don't want to end up with a dry socket or an infection or bleed to death. Do I have to take Antibiotics if the dentist prescribes them? If not, what can I use instead? Any advice would be appreciated. I was reading a little on tooth extractions and started to wonder if I should just have the root canal. I don't want a root canal but I also wasn't aware of all the possible problems with having a tooth extracted. Also, the tooth being pulled has been prepped for a crown. Is there going to be enough tooth there for the dentist to do a simple extraction?

Thanks!
