A big mistake a lot of people make is that they think whatever works for them is going to work for everyone else. For me, leaving on the dead skin did absolutely nothing. I was extremely careful for a long time, and all it did was drive me crazy. And the Liver Flush thing I am very skeptical about. I'm sure that helps certain things for certain people, but I highly doubt that would heal my lips. I do not believe that's a cure-all for everybody.
My theory, which will not be true for everyone else, is that I damaged them by biting them, which has screwed up the cycle at which they grow and shed skin. By gently clearing off the dead skin as it becomes apparent as opposed to chewing them at random, I help them even out. Eventually they look normal. That is what worked for me in the past, and I've just started doing that again a few days ago and already my lips are starting to behave better. I still drink tea, coffee and alcohol (though neither one in excess), get my lips wet whenever I normally would.. in other words I'm not changing anything about what I eat or what I do with my lips aside from clearing the skin off and making sure they don't get dried out. And I don't mean keeping them slimy with cream all the time, but if they start to feel chapped I'll put some stuff on them.
I'm not far enough along in this to know for sure that it's working again, but I will post exactly what I'm using and what I'm doing once I can start being lazy about it like I was for the last few months. It's not all that much. If your case sounds like mine, in that you're pretty sure you only developed it because you chewed up your lips due to anxiety, what I'm doing MAY work for you.
