Hmmm Well that is what my vet told me and I was kinda shock to say the least. I had them put down another cat of mine who had kidney failure and They said he wouldn't even know it happened. Today I ask him " He will gasp for air?" and he said yeah he could. I thought okay well never heard of that before. It kinda made me have second thoughts. He wanted to detour me from staying with the cat.
