Multi-vitamin for babies?
Hmm. My son is six months old and this week his doctor said to give him a multi-vitamin. So I got some Poly Vi Sol from Enfamil. I tried to give it to him last night, and it smelled vile. He took about half the recommended dose and spit the rest out. It smelled so nasty that my husband and I both tasted a little bit of it. Not to be vulgar, but the only way to describe it is that it tastes like shit! the end of my tongue was numb and my mouth tasted like iron, like I had a mouth full of blood. Tonight I tried mixing it with his cereal and it turned it gray and smelled terrible of course. I tried feeding it to him, but he gagged and I threw it out and made him a fresh bowl.
Then I wondered if he really needs a multi in the first place. He's being breastfed, no formula, and he's not picky at all. He eats all his vegetables and the only fruit he doesn't seem to care for is peaches.
I hate to force the nasty Poly Vi Sol on him if I don't have to. I didn't see any other multi's for babies, and I'm wondering if it is okay to just give him a vitamin D supplement since it's getting colder and I can't take him outside very much. I take a multi every day, but I know he doesn't get much D from me. If anyone has any info or advice, I would certainly appreciate it. I'm going to call his doctor about it Monday, but it's Saturday night now and to be honest I'm not sure she's all that knowledgable about breastfeeding.
Thanks, T
