I'm an athlete and following high intense training/practice (4-6 times per week) I take a combination of dextrose and maltodextrin to replenish glycogen stores which get severely depleted during strenuous exercise. I know on a normal basis, both of those simple sugars can be hazardious to one's health, but in the scenario where I am taking them (post exercise), I have read, and been told that it is ok to consume 40-50g of dextrose/maltodextrin due to the need for glycogen replenishment. I still wanted to look into it further. I have read on this site that splenda can cause cancer, and one of the ingredients in splenda is dextrose. That did not make me too happy! Any suggestions? If dextrose/maltodextrin is not the answer, what else is a high GI carb that I can take to replenish glycogen stores which won't damage my health? Thanks!
