uterine pain

Hi, just wondering if anyone here has any info on uterine "pain". A friend of mine in MN. is having bad uterin pain, she is 49yrs. old, still gets her period regularly, and has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids (non cancerous). A few weeks ago, right before her period started, this weird "pain" began, and we thought it was due to her cycle starting. However, it seemed to subside SLIGHTLY during her period, and then has picked right up again for the last two weeks, now she takes about 3 tylenol just to take the edge off. Her GYN has told her that her uterus is "enlarged" and wants to do a saline ultrasound on Thursday to see what's wrong. Can anyone here give us any info.? Is this saline ultrasound ok, or not? what do you think this pain would be from? (it's not an ache, or a stabbing)
It does feel better when she is standing. Does this sound like something serious?
thank you all!
