I absolutely agree. We are in a driven society now, and paranoid as well. I hear the names of child developmental books in the conversation of many young parents....I did that too, and regret it. I gave them all away when my son turned 6. In a way, I think they did more harm than good....but intelligent, well-read people want to understand, and I get that, really I do.
And, by the way, we have been told our child is "gifted". That "gifted child" is now wailing away on some heavy metal guitar thing he heard (sounds like satan gargling), every question is answered with "huh?" or "what?", and his inability to follow simple instructions.....I KNOW I KNOW...but jeeze. The joys of adolescence...enjoy them while they are young!!
