Re: Niacin, clean arteries & Suzanne Somers
Good answer F.F.
Indeed niacin does work very nicely to clear up arteries and lower cholesterol. However, it must be remembered to always buy the non-flush niacin. You must look for it on the label. I failed to notice that I bought regular niacin a few weeks ago without meaning to, proceeded to take a little capsule and about 45 minutes later when I was at a pet shop with my daughter I broke out into the most maddening red-all-over, itchy rash. I thought I must be allergic to some little animal or something and I was going crazy. Hours later I noticed the label on my niacin bottle, and it did NOT say non-flush. LOL, I realized what happened and just tossed the bottle out. I'm not going through that again if I can help it!
A good protocol is to start off slowly, like taking 250 mg. in the mornings for a few days, then increasing to twice a day. For cases of very high cholesterol, you may increase gradually to 500mgs twice a day. However, as FF noted, you need to balance it out with other B vitamins, and you should only do this for short periods at a time, as continuing to take high dosages of niacin over a long period of time can be taxing on the liver.
All that being said, niacin does work very well in bringing down cholesterol levels and it sure beats taking statin drugs. Actually, as far as I'm concerned that's totally out of the question anyway. But there is one other point of which to be aware. When the diet is reasonably good, and a person is fairly young or even early middle age, a high cholesterol level may be an indication of something far more sinister than artery plaque caused by dietary indiscretions. Like mercury!!!
Once again, the presence of this heavy metal in our bodies causes havoc in ways we are often completely unaware. The mercury will irritate the arterial walls, which in turn collect the plaque in order to protect themselves. Then our establishment docs will inform us hat we have high cholesterol and put us on statin drugs. Another stupid and dangerous band-aid.
Get rid of the mercury and flush the arteries clean,.
Another good artery broom is grapefruit pectin. Together with non-flush niacin, they work nicely. Check on protocols for mercury chelation with or without DMSA.
