Re: how long is too long?

The crating is something that is done to train the animal not to urinate inside and to protect the home from the puppy habit of tearing everything up when an owner leaves:) After a certain period of time most owners stop crating (though some continue). I was adverse to it in the beginning, but the dogs don't seem to mind after they get use to it. It is kind of like a den that they would have huddled in while out in the wild. We decided to stop crating at about a year, and when he was crated the average time was just 1/2 hour to two. But I had a co-worker that still crated her 8 year old dog while she was gone from home. In fact, her dog loved the crate and would crawl in there and go to sleep even when she was home. She told stories about how she would have to entice him to come out and spend time with her sometimes.
