wildlife in the yard

Well, I live in the (small/medium) city but there still seems to be a good bit of wildlife around here. We have chipmunks (SO cute but mess up the yard) and squirrels, of course. Plenty of birds although not an annoying amount (and I don't feed them) (a redbird was hanging out in the tree outside the window for most of the winter). Sometimes a cat will pass through the yard but none live here. Sometimes there's a butterfly although not a lot, maybe next year I'll plant some beneficial insect/butterfly flowers.
Lately I have been noticing some of the smaller things. The spider is an obvious one, also that brightly-colored (????) bug that lived on my basil for more than a month (and didn't take a single bite). There was also a big black grasshopper/cricket? with orange markings that was hanging out on the side yard. Sometimes he'd be standing on the driveway, other times on or in some shrubs. He lost one of his main legs somehow but still did his thing without it.
There are some brown beetles that live on the back of the mailbox flag. When I pull it up, there they are.
I recently noticed a hummingbird coming near to the house in the backyard, apparently it really likes the gerber daisy I have. I was pretty excited about that!

We haven't used any chemicals in a long time. We never really were chemical people, anyway. We have some dandelions growing but I keep 'em thinned back by eating them. lol I think my dad used some occasionally but not much and definitely not in the past 5 years.
I am thinking about trying out some "Equal" aspartame on a big antbed, but that would be it! ha ha
