Well, it all depends on what you want. There are hormonal and non-hormonal forms of BC on the market nowdays. 5 years ago I got on the pill....spent about 3 years on it. Gained some weight, but my periods were light, short, and pain-free. Down side, I had to take a pill EVERY day. I then wanted off hormones and tried a copper IUD for a little over a year. My periods became heavy, long (8-9 days) and very crampy. I have now switched to the IUD Mirena. I've only had it 2 weeks, but my cramping has already lessened, and I started my period a week ago and it's lighter than the ones of past months. The procedure to get an IUD is painfull, especially if you've never had kids (which I haven't), but docs will do it. It's great not having to remember to take a pill everyday. I'm still waiting to see how my body reacts to the hormone. I've experienced a little Depression already, but I'm going to give Mirena a fair chance since everyone else likes it. I'll let you know in 3-6 months! :)
