Re: Ketosis
"they say fasting slows your metabolism....i am finding on this fast i am losing more than i ever did (juice fast) and my metabolism seems to be improving actually. perhaps its because i eat right in between and have kept my fasts short? any thoughts on that one?"
You have discovered the secret!!!
1. Not eating solid foods shuts down the digestive system and diverts energy to cleansing instead of breaking down food. When the liver and bowels are clean, they process food better and you get more nutrition on less food. Detoxing your body from accumilated refined foods that tend to stick like glue will help cut your cravings for junk. The body needs energy to both loose and keep off weight.
2. Juice fasting will not send the body into "Starvation mode" as rapidly as water only fasting. This prevents the metabolic rate from dropping too low. Depending on the kind of juice you drink you will get high density nutrients with few calories.
3. Healthy carbs including complex carbohydrates and fruit sugars can help speed weight loss. A certain amount of
Sugar is needed for the body to absorb minerals on a cellular level. This keeps the body energized.
4. A series of short fasts mixed with periods of eating nutrient dense low calorie fruits and vegetables are the best way to incorporate fasting for weight loss. The body will stay in a constant state of gentle detoxification, but usually will not suffer a great loss of metabolic rate. When the metabolism can stay level and the total calories comsumed is lessened, weight loss will be more likely to be permanent. Weight lost rapidly before the body slips into starvation mode will usually be regained very rapidly because the metabolism is slowed down and is slow to recover. (the best reason to avoid long water only fasts for losing weight)
