Have you considered a juice fast? You can have veggie broth, herbal tea, and many delicious juices - it is MUCH easier than a water fast. When you at least have something with taste to consume, you can sort of replace your meals.
It's much easier. And you might want to try a three day fast - start Thursday night and go till Monday morning, drinking juices (fresh squeezed, of course, which does require some juicer investment).
Also, you could try starting with a "raw" weekend, where you only eat raw fruits & veggies. That's a good way to start, too.
