Re: Ulcerative Colitis Cure - Vitamin E Enema & Diet
Hello,
I feel so much for you! I hope it is okay to horn in on this thread, but I feel I must relay our experience to you. Myself and my daughter are able to control our colitis with a more limited version of Sheldon's diet. We are not able to do any grains or starches or fruits at this time and our diet always does the trick to stop a flare if we have tried these things. Basically, we eat meats, veggies (mostly steamed brocolli/caul - no carrots as they bother), homemade 24 hr plain yogurt, cheese, eggs, homemade chx broth. This is it, nothing else. We used to eat fruits/honey and they bothered us. We haven't tried grains/starches, including potatoes & oatmeal or wheat for a long time. We do not do lactose (milk sugar) or sucrose (table sugar). We don't do anything processed. Definitely no soy milk. . . it is over processed and there is a lot of negative info floating out there about it. I don't want to eat this way forever, but it puts my daughter into remission and makes me very stable with a few annoying symptoms. I am hoping that if we do this long enough, things will completely heal and then we can add some different things into our diet.
I have read extensively on all kinds of recoveries from UC through diet. I have noticed that some people only had to cut fruit/honey, some had to cut grains/starches, some had to cut out both. Different pathogens eat different things. We just have to find the right things to cut out and starve the buggers out! I know that oatmeal would send me running withing 20 minutes or so to the bathroom. With my daughters first flare up when she was a baby, all we had to cut out was grains and she was able to eat fruit like crazy. She was in complete remission for 4 years, had a dose of
Antibiotics and a new flare. Now, she cannot tolerate fruit and believe me it took a while to figure it out since our 1st experience was different. At least if you try the basic diet we are on and have some success, you can then experiment and add things in ONE at a time. I would be happy to help you if you would like to directly email me. I wish you well.
