My chemical peel experience

Not really a natural peel, but here's
as good as place as any to share my
light peel experience.

Nurse Lori is "Dr. R's" nurse. He
lets her do the light checmical peels

Their Procedure:
Wash face with some kind of antibacterial
soap. Dry face. She would usually ask
how many "coats" or "layers" I would like
to have. I would usually say "the more the
better". More layers of the acid penetrate
deeper into the skin. The most she ever
applied was maybe 5 or 6. If I got 1 or two
coats it would not be that noticible (little
healing time). A couple of times she applied
rubbing alcohol first, to really dry the
skin, thus deeper peel.

I would lie down. She would dip white gauze
into the acid, then rub in circular motion
my face, doing the whole face. It burn a lot,
and had a strong smell. The whole process takes
maybe 5 minutes, and without exception tears
form in my eyes from the brief, but stong pain.
(I am very tolerant of pain too). I actually
tried not to show that it hurt so she would
continue with the acid. The areas she would not
go near were anywhere near the eyes, nostril, and lips.
A drop of that stuff would burn a hole in your
eyeball. So she would reapply the number of
coats she wanted.

After she finished I would not wash my face.
It was VERY RED. Numb feeling. That night and
the following day usually my face hurt a little.
At home I washed my face, applied a moisturizer.
During the daysunscreen. I always had it done
on Thurs, took Friday off. Then on Sat night
or Sunday my face would peel, exactly like a
sunburn peel.
No pain or anything. The skin beneath is fresh
looking, healthy.

Dr. R only allows the peel to be done once every
2 weeks. What I should have done (and I just
started doing at home) is do the peel every
2 weeks. Look at it as a long term project
(as opposed to dermabrasion).

I am unsure of the acid they used. I may go
and have another peel just to check out the
acid they are using.

The whole thing isn't that intrusive, and I
just missed 1 day of work.
