My Experience with Dermabrasion

Its been 10 years since the experience, but I thought
I would share my experience with having dermabrasion.

I had moderate scarring from acne, cheek area, both sides.
Consulted with "Dr. R.". Had someone drive me to the
doctors the day of the surgury. Took about an hour, maybe
an hour and a half.

Basically he sanded off the upper layers of my skin using
some kind of diamond drill bit (sounds gruesome for your
face?? still don't really know what the heck it was).
Prior to surgury some valium. He gave me a shot in the arm
which knocked me out. Felt nothing, remember little.

After surgery, the area from my chin to just above my eyes
was taped with gauze (looked like a mummy). Left this on
a few days, before returning to Dr. R. He removed the gauze
and said "WOW", "looks good". Retaped me for a few more days.
I'm forgetting some stuff. Somewhere in the first few days I
had to shower, and it HURT. Not having the outer layer of skin
kills you. I cried in the shower while cleaning my face.

Your face is VERY red, its very obvious you had work. It took
maybe 3 months for it to completely fade. I think I was back
at work in a month.

Positives: Definately improved my complexion by 80 percent.
No more craters. No more "shadows" looking in the mirror.

Negatives: Long healing process. Cost ($1200). Scar line left
along jaw line (has faded over 10 years). My skin still isn't
completely "perfect".

I think psychologically I feel better about myself.

I'm also an "expert" of having light chemical peels over the
past 10 years. Had maybe 20 or so. I actually purchased the
chemical over the internet so I can do them at home instead of
paying Nurse Lori $50 a pop. If anyone has a question about
the dermabrasion or chemical peel, I can let you know my experience.
