A way to lose weight

I heard one of the ways to lose weight is not eat anything before 12:00pm and after 6:00pm. From 12 to 6 you can eat anything you want, as much as you like. Then somebody else said to me a similar thing that if I want to lose weight I shouldnt eat anything after 6. Did you ever hear about/tried this? Is there any truth in it?
