Yes I understand
Well, what better way to get started then just looking. Maybe check out volunteer work or becoming a member of some of the groups mentioned below. I have also included some links that are organizations where you may like to contact for information/opportunities. The first one looks like a way to slowly integrate what you do now with what you want to do in the future. Some of the links are filled with professors in business focus fields, you may have luck contacting them about opportunities or strategies. Do a search for email and have some type of template text that you use detailing your situation. I am sure that they could make more appropriate recommendations. In addition, I did include some links on development that will cost money. I will admit that most of these links have to do with your career change, rather than the 'meeting people' change... though they can roll into each other. Please look at all sites, though some may not be up your alley. The last link for pacific community ventures has a volunteer opportunity for a business advisor that you may be interested in though I am not sure you would qualify. If you have even a smidgen of project management or micro project management, you may be able to mention that in your resume and qualify.
Also, joining a group like the Jaycees is another way to network and have an opportunity to become involved with non-profit/business related projects. I am a member. The Jaycees are the Junior Chamber. We are invited to the Chamber events, like networking events that would help you meet the business people in your area (and surely not all are technology people:).
Overall, it seems that the best approach is to work/volunteer somewhere in that blurry land between tech and tech solutions/business practices/business models and strategies. And, realize that when you do make your move, the money will probably be less, and the satisfaction more.
Anyway, I am tired now. But, let me know if any of these things would be possibilities or if a couple piqued your interest, let me know so I can find similar things. Good luck.
