Re: I'm selling a bunch of Tropical Traditions coconut oil!
Hi MG,
Quick question...
Is Tropical Traditions the only coconut oil you have ever used? The reason I ask is:
1) Their oil is not a truly raw oil. I have had confirmed from different sources that their oil has been heated to remove the moisture. I wonder if this heating has changed the digetibility of the oil.
and...
2) From these same sources I have found out that Tropical Traditions has some major quality control issues. Their oil comes from a sort of co-op system where many small farmers contribute their little batches of oil and all are combined into one final big batch. Because of this there may be other impurities in the oil that go unchecked. Also this small scale production causes the T.T. oil to have higher levels of 'acid of fermentation' than other truly raw oils that have a real quality control system. For as you know all Phillippine oils are fermented.
I also know that this oil comes in un-lined painted oil drums before it is bottled.
I wonder if these possible contaminates and/or higher acids of fermentation can be what is causing your stones.
The T.T. oil also has a higher moisture level than the other oils I have looked at. The higher the moisture the faster the product will go rancid. So it is possible you have been consuming rancid oil which would for sure cause your problems.
I used to use Garden of Life Coconut Oil which is the same exact oil as Tropical Traditions (T.T. is their supplier). We found many containers to smell like 'baby barf' when they were opened this was due to the high moisture level causing the oil to go off.
Also both these oils come packed in plastic. I have had difficulty washing the greasy feeling from the finished container. This means that the oil and plastic are migrating into eachother.
So.... can you say that all coconut oils give you stones or is Tropical traditions really the only one you have used?
Thanks,
JJ
