Re: Lonely being a Christian (complacent no more)
Hi luhtdw,
Lot was also depressed (his heart was sorely vexed) because of what went on around him (I think that's Genesis 18) and God spoke very highly of him. You are actually doing what we are admonished to do in James 4:9 (turn your laughter to tears and your joy to dejection). Christians should be able to see, very clearly, why God refers to human nature as human folly. Of course there is a lot of debauchery in human nature, but we aren't supposed to focus on that, we are supposed to have joy in life (huh?) and fellowship with the Lord's body. Politics is part of the worldly (secular) view of life (no matter how much the politician professes to be a Christian, they're playing a dirty game) and the politicians are corrupt more today than ever before because there is more money to be made than ever before. Jesus is not a political figure and addresses a world where there is no corruption, so we await His return, but while we do, maybe we can convince others to come along, and with the deep conviction that we have ourselves. That's why it's important to not get overly concerned about political matters, because corruption and greed will always be such a large part of the worldly system. The Lord never promised us a rose garden. Of course morals have declined with every generation, but part of that reason is that they're just considered a book of rules anyway, so you have the right idea when you mention that you are conscientous (personal ethics and principles are what keep a person on the "straight and narrow"). Don't let things get you down, you know who is trying to make that work out (Satan).
God bless you.
