Rubella virus vaccine. Safe?

Doctor who checks my pregnancy told me I will need a Rubella virus vaccination if I plan to have one more child.

She says if I get infected with the virus during next pregnancy there is risk this next child can be born blind. Is it true?

Please, tell me if the vaccination is safe for me and is it really so necessary to do it.
