Re: headaches - some stuff that's helped me.

boy, I have been in your shoes, dependent on painkillers, too. THat's a dark road, isn't it? One thing that helped a lot with my headaches was "upper cervical chiropractic" and craniosacral therapy. I still get regular bodywork. I don't know where you live, I'm in SE Michigan, and we are really blessed to have a really gifted doctor here who does "sraight chiropractic" - look up Sherman College, Blair Method, upper cervical chiropractic and see what you can find out about it. Sadly, there are only a handful of practitioners in the U.S., but there might be one near you if you're in the States. We think the lack of popularity is that it's not a get-rich quick variety of chiropractic for the doctor, since people actually get well with it and don't have to come back week after week for adjustments! It also requires the patient to commit to the healing process - total relief doesn't usually happen overnight, although my first toggle atlas adjustment was nothing short of profound. It's a totally different approach than full-spine, and the only kind that ever helped my headaches. Getting rid of brain stem pressure helps your body heal other stuff, too - it takes a load off the immune system somehow. It also helps lower back issues, etc. - brain stem pressure causes a lot of those lower spine/pelvis problems, as well. It's a really brilliant approach that's very honoring to the body and allows it to heal itself, really. I can't say enough good things about it, and I know many, many people in our area who have had real healing occur with this type of work. It's harder with folks who have had severe accidents, injuries, or sugeries, or who are elderly and have been "in their kink" for many years, but most people really benefit from it. With your long history of headaches, that's the first thing I would look into. Good luck!
